Conferences

We have created a list of sources of what we think is high-quality work. This includes small conferences, as well as seminar series where papers are posted. Striving to attend or present at these venues is useful for a variety of reasons. First, research is often presented before it is presented elsewhere (and much before it is published).  Second, the papers are typically of high quality. Reading good work helps to improve one’s work better than reading lesser quality work. Third, there is a higher probability that these will one day be published, unlike at many other conferences. Fourth, It is much easier to talk with other attendees and share comments because authors have a bit more confidence that what you have to share may be important, since conference attendance is limited. Fifth, it is easier to understand the current conversation among a smaller group of scholars by reading their work and meeting them. Finally, you may make friends and/or gain future co-authors, directly, or indirectly through the people that other attendees know.
